Jack's Comments:

This is an exact reproduction of the 1970 D0OB-10A682-A battery heat shield made in America by Larry Hoffman Reproductions. Its even made with the same heat resistant talc-filled polypropylene plastic as the originals.  My accuracy rating, a perfect 10. It is just like the production original. Scroll down to see an original heat shield installed.

Concours Notes:
1) Many applications for this heat shield are hard to verify since it's so rare to find on even low mile survivor cars.  The BOSS 302 community is split, some think they came from the factory with this shield and some do not.  We do know they came on most performance Ford and Mercury cars from 1970 thru 1973.
2) Update 10-14-21: I talked to an original owner of a 1970 BOSS 302 held onto his original group 22 battery after all these years but clearly recalled throwing away his heat shield when he replaced his factory installed Autolite battery. His car will built at the Dearborn plant on March 23rd 1970.

3) There is evidence that some originals were molded with dark gray plastic but black plastic is considered the most common.

4) My personal theory is any Mustang that was equipped with the larger 24 inch radiator also received a battery heat-shield. The 24 inch radiator was now much closer to the battery so it needed a heat-shield to keep the operating temperatures within an acceptable range. This would also explain why a standard 302 with a 20 inch radiator was not equipped with heat shield and standard 302 with AC and larger 24" radiator had them. I have no solid evidence except documented survivor cars, and early photos in period car review magazines.

Applications:

1970-71 Torino 351C, 428 S/CJ, 429 S/CJ
1970-71 Cyclone 351C, 428 S/CJ, 429 S/CJ
