Jack's Comments:

The biggest challenge our customers have had when installing our water pump rebuild kits is to properly support the delicate seal when pressing it into place and setting the correct preload on the spring. After a fruitless search for an existing tool we developed this tool so anyone can install the seal like a pro without damaging the seal and setting the spring preload perfectly. Detailed instructions are included.

-Keeps the bearing squarely supported on the outside of the bearing so you can press it in strait without binding
-Seal is supported on shaft and outer seal so not to damage when being pressed in
-Sets seal spring preload perfectly

Tips:
-Note the location of your fan hub and impeller before removing. Fan hubs are usually 1 inch from the bearing.
-Use a little Permatex Form-a-Gasket #1 on the outer seal and the bearing to insure a good seal to pump housing.
-Make sure the seal does not make contact with the impeller when installed.  (see Q/A's below for more information)
-Contact George the inventor of this tool if you have any questions at george@deadnutson.com

Questions:
Q: I have an original Hipo 289 water pump with a cast iron impeller. When I installed the impeller it bottomed out on the seal just short of the depth that was required. Does the impeller make contact with the seal? What should I do?
A: No, it should never contact the impeller. Your original pump must have had the old style single seal that is thinner than the double seal that is with our kit. At the shop we handle this putting the impeller in a lathe and removing just enough of the cast impeller so it doesn't touch the seal and still installs at the correct depth. This will not affect the impeller performance. It's also OK to not have the shaft install completely into the impeller hub. As long as its at least 3/4 the way in the impeller hub it will work without any problems.

Customer's Comments:
"The tool made setting the cartridge and seal an absolute breeze"....Tom S.

"Thanks...what makes this rebuild so easy is the installation tool. Without that, setting the seal preload would be at best guesswork"....Dick L.
